The SHOR American Seafood Grill was located in the resort we stayed at during our time in Clearwater, Florida. We sat outside where they have gorgeous views and a lovely patio.
The first small plate we tried was seared scallops with a corn maque choux. Scallops can be hit or miss. These were cooked properly with great seasoning. They did not have the fishy or overpowering seafood taste many people strongly dislike. We feel that a non-seafood lover would enjoy these. The corn was the definition of the savory flavor you want on a summer night near the water.
Courtney's favorite dish of the night were these Brussels sprouts with grana padano which tastes very similar to parmesan cheese. These were just the right amount of crispy while also not being dry at all. They were delightfully seasoned while not being a complete salt bomb. The cheese was slightly melted throughout which made each bit get a good amount of flavor.
Ed's favorite appetizer of the night were these buttermilk fried calamari pieces with a key lime cocktail sauce. We love seeing restaurants put unique twists on common dishes and this was the best calamari we've ever had. They managed to make a deep fried dish taste very fresh. The breading was not over bearing while still adding the perfect crunchy outer layer. You could tell these were not the basic frozen calamari!
The steak frites entrée included a 12oz NY Strip, chimichurri, goat cheese truffle fries, and a garlic aioli. The fries were a little disappointing. They were clearly not hand cut or fresh fries and were not seasoned well. The steak was much more delicious and actually seasoned and cooked very well.
The chocolate cake was more similar to a brownie. Courtney enjoyed the raspberry drizzle underneath but you have to be a serious chocolate lover in order to eat this dessert. It was fine but nothing memorable in our opinion.
We had a satisfactory experience at this restaurant and another friendly waiter with good service.
